Faint footsteps echoed endlessly off of the metallic corridor walls. Small lights laid every few meters lit up the corridor floor, giving just enough light to see by. Two figures walked, one slightly behind the other, down the seemingly endless corridor.

“What’s going on?” The second of the two asked, when noticing the first stop suddenly. She looked around nervously at the walls, expecting sentry guns or something to jump out without warning.

The first looked back at the woman and quirked an eyebrow in question. “You didn’t notice that we just started walking down a slope? This means it shouldn’t be that far now”

The woman dipped her head slightly in apology, accepting the rebuke. A moment later the pair started walking down the corridor in silence, toward some hidden treasure. The woman still glanced around, nervous wondering how much farther it was until they’d reach what he was looking for.

Five minutes later, she had her answer. They stood before an air sealed door, multiple locks and mechanisms crawling over its surface. Three keypads branched out from the wall next to the door.

A crumpling sound emitted from the man in front as he pulled a piece of paper from his pocket and unfolded it. The faded ink was hard to read in the dim light, but he managed to make out the coded sequence written on the paper. Without hesitation he entered the code and stepped back as multiple clanging and hissing noises started eminating from the door.

The latches on the door flicked open and the door slowly slid upwards with a quiet hiss and then a gust of stale, damp air assaulted the two figures. The first entered quickly afterwards, lights blinking as he walked toward the vast stasis cell in the center of the room.

A turquoise light clashed with the harsh white lights of the room. Huge cables snaked their way around the cell pumping unknown fluids and other composites into the cell keeping the shrouded body from rotting away.

The woman, stepping as close as she dared, stared in awe. “This is it, it must be! You’ve finally found it after all this time.”

“Indeed this is what I’ve been searching for all this time. This clone body has been in stasis for well over a hundred years, if not several. I wonder what compelled Zaitsev to give me the information to find this,” The man replied quietly while attempting to see the clone body.

“The body isn’t even close to human. The implants installed have replaced most everything from what the information says, and on top of it all, some are supposed to be Jovian in nature, but adapted by Caldari scientists for our bodies. This is the closest thing to perfect anyone could ever be.”

Suddenly a light flashed on over a small seat hidden in a small recess in the far wall. A neural jack and scanning device were attached to the head piece. A couple of thick cables snaked their way from the chair to the stasis cell. Glancing between the two, Korthan realized what the chair was.

He walked over to the chair and sat down, activating the passive system. A sharp pinch was felt as the neural jack connected to his head. The scanner device closed down over his eyes, displaying all the data streams and status of the cell. Then without warning a bright light pierced his eyes and scanned his brain.

The consciousness passed through the system and was stored in the brain of the clone. A minute later, the body started thrashing wildly as it started waking up and responding to all the information being sent out by Korthan’s consciousness.

The woman screamed in shock and fell back to the floor as she saw the body violently react. She looked towards Korthan in the chair only to his old corpse sitting there now and then the realization hit her.

“By the gods, he’s transferred to that clone body!” She whispered to herself in shock.

A large hissing and gurgling sound could be heard as the fluid started draining out of the tank into the floor. The cables connected to the body released with several large snaps allowing the body to fall to the floor with a dull thud.

Information assaulted Korthan’s brain as it registered muscle movements, feeling and touch from his hands, and implants installed long ago. The cell gave a small humming sound as the thick nano-reinforced glass slid open, allowing him to crawl out of the cell in his new body. Fighting to stand up, Korthan leaned back against the cell for support as he slowly regained his balance.

“This feels so – so – so surreal,” he rasped in his new voice. “All this power and information is beyond imagination.”

Ten minutes later the two figures were walking back through the corridor away from the relocked room and one decaying corpse.
